At TurnerKelley Farm we do not use any chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides on our pastures. We practice sustainable agriculture using the grass to feed the animals, the animals produce waste that fertilizes the grass, irrigation water makes the grass grow and then the cycle repeats.
We do not feed our chickens any medicated feeds or antibiotics. Our egg layers free range from a movable hen house and have access to several acres of green grass, giving them the opportunity to consume grass, insects and sunshine in addition to their non-organic layer pellet feed, grit and scratch. This diet provides them the nutrition and energy they need to keep producing quality eggs.

At about three weeks of age our pastured poultry graduate from the brooder and are put in movable bottomless pens in the pasture. The pens are moved daily providing continuous access to fresh grass, insects and sunshine in addition to a quality organic chick starter/grower feed.
What are the benefits of pastured poultry?
Small natural sized groupings, constant access to fresh, green growing pasture and fresh air and sunshine reduce stress on chickens allowing them to mature naturally. No residue from pesticides, drugs or other chemicals is possible since none are needed or ever used. All this, coupled with exercise and greens in the diet, substantially increase the nutritional value of pasture poultry, particularly in Omega-3 Fatty Acids and in Vitamin A, with a significant reduction of total fat content. Best of all these chickens have excellent texture and taste.
